Past Brides weigh in on their own wedding-planning experiences…

Let’s start by CONGRATULATING you on finding your person. That’s a huge deal!

Now. It's about to get serious up in here, and you better buckle up for a busy year. This is the time you will chose vendors and day-of details that will represent you as a couple. Whether you're planning an elopement or an extravaganza, you have some big decisions to make.

Here is where we think you should spend your precious energy:

#1 - BOOK YOUR CHOICE VENDORS:

Of all things, this is carries the highest weight. Keep in mind that Knoxville's best and most-sought-after wedding vendors will book up to 18 months in advance. Call them. Book them. Like yesterday. If you have less than 18 months to plan, and your favorite wedding vendors have already been spoken for, consider another day for your wedding. Fridays, Sundays and even Thursday are becoming increasingly popular for modern couples, and as a budget bonus, are typically less expensive than the traditional Saturday dates.

Brides weigh in with their own planning experiences…

“I hated it. Maybe it was the 4 month timeline. Maybe it was the budget. Maybe it was my poor event planning skills. I can’t exactly say what it was but I’m so excited that it is almost over! I guess I wish I had maybe gone ahead and gotten a wedding planner but at the time I had already booked all my vendors and didn’t really see the point. I might have a completely different opinion after the wedding but currently I’m worried it is all going to flop!”

“I was a full time college student taking 18 hours, graduating 20 days before my wedding, searching for a job in Oklahoma City and packing up all my stuff to move to Oklahoma from Georgia right after my wedding.
My stress was a lot so I just ditched the pre-wedding diet and stuck to ice cream and Netflix to help with stress.”

#2 - LEAVE YOUR TIMELINE TO THE PROS:

Most professionals that you will hire do this regularly; and this is their full-time job. Day-of-flow is *everything* when it comes to the feel of a wedding day, altering the way your guests transition from one thing to the next can have an impact on just about everything. Experienced vendors will know how to improvise on the spot and can tell you just about how long things will take.

#3 - DON'T LET WEDDING PLANNING TAKE OVER YOUR RELATIONSHIP:

(source: HuffPost) Make time to date each other and keep the romance alive. Set aside date nights where you focus only on each other and not the wedding. Wedding planning can be very stressful. Take a deep breath and remember that the commitment is much more important than the wedding. This is a time to build your relationship up — not let the stress tear it down.

“I didn’t sleep for the first few nights when we decided to get married. Not out of stress, just pure excitement! Plus I love having a plan so I was brainstorming how to plan a wedding. Within the first week, I had reached out to Laurie, booked a venue, picked the colors, decided on the bridal party, and sent them their proposal gifts. Before we were even officially engaged (with a ring), I had bought a dress, booked the DJ, found the cake baker, purchased welcome bags and contents, found the jewelry. Maybe this is why he never actually asked lol. Everything was smooth sailing until recently. The nitty gritty details are piling up and a little bit of stress is setting in. If I start feeling overwhelmed, I do yoga or just take a nap!”

Most of all, don’t forget to have fun! It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of wedding planning. But keep in mind that this is a magical — and finite — time in your relationship. So take the time to pause and enjoy it, and don’t sweat the small stuff.

I’d love to help, Let's chat about your wedding day!
